Throughly cream shortening and sugar. Add molasses, egg, salt, spices, and beat until blended. Stir together water, and soda add to first mixture. Stir in flour and drop from spoon onto a greased baking sheet. Bake 350 deg. F. 10-15 minutes. NOTE: measure 7/8 of a cup by filling a liquid measuring cup slightly below the 1 cup level.
