2 lb Boiling Potato, * see note
1 Clove Garlic, peeled
2 oz Butter, flaked
Salt And Pepper, to taste
4 oz Gruyere Cheese
1/2 pt Milk
Gratin Dauphinois 2 Preparation
Oven 400° Cut potato slices 1/8 thick. Rinse in plenty of cold water. Finely chop cheese and garlic. Use 1 tbs. butter to grease bottom and sides of oven-to-table baking dish, not more than 2-inches deep. Put potatoes in dish in 2 layers, sprinkling each layer with garllic, cheese, salt, pepper and half the butter, Heat milk to boiling point and pour down the side of dish. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes at 400°F untill top is well browned. NOTES : *May leave skins on especially if using red potatoes. Recipe by: P.B.
