Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring in a separate bowl, then add to the creamed mixture. Add buttermilk, salt, flour and vanilla. Add this mixture to the vinegar and soda. Add baking powder and mix. Pour into 8-inch pans and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Posted to Master Cook Recipes List, Digest #96
