Cooking Ingredients for Traditional White Soda Bread Recipe

1 lb Flour
1/2 ts Salt
1 ts Bicarbonate of soda
1/2 pt Buttermilk (or milk soured
-with a little lemon juice)

Traditional White Soda Bread Preparation

(Taken from Good Food from Ireland by G.Campbell, Grafton editors) Preheat oven 220oC or 425oF. Mix flour, salt and soda. Stir in the buttermilk and mix to a soft dough. Turn on to a floured worktop and knead quickly and lightly. =46orm the dough into a flat, round cake about 2 in/5cm high and cut a deep cross in it. Put on to a floured baking tray and bake for 30-40 mn or until well risen and lightly browned. When cooked il will sound hollow when tapped on the base.
